Some examples of local projects that we have designed and installed on Vancouver Island using Permaculture and Organic Landcare Principles.
This customer wanted to build a food forest in this neglected part of their garden. We acted as a consultant and provided a planting plan and plant list for the customers food forest. We helped layout the plants for the install and were available throughout the process to help the customer do much of the work themselves. This is a great example of the consultation service we offer for those who want to do it themselves.

This customer had recently purchased this house with an existing ornamental garden. They wanted more edible plants while maintaining the aesthetics of a an ornamental garden. We decided on these curved beds to bring some natural shapes to this space. Once the beds were create we planted apple, pear, and plum trees and will be returning in the spring to add some fruit trees, berries, herbs and nutrient accumulating plants.
The customer wanted to learn to grow their own food. After our usual consultation that looks at the level of maintenance they can put in, budgets, food they like to eat, we decided on this design. We built some raised beds for vegetables, herbs that they already owned and installed raspberries, blueberries, currants, apple tree, fig tree, cherry and a pear tree in this 1/5th acre plot.
We built this adapted raised bed in this beautiful garden in Black Creek. The bed was designed to be high enough to help with mobility challenges. The client was also interested in using permaculture methods to reduce water usage so we built the raised cedar bed with a hugelkultur bottom. This will act as a sponge for water for plants to tap send their roots down into and also will release nutrients into the soil over time.
The owners of this field wanted to turn this under used old horse field into a large food forest. We created the design for over 20 fruit and nut trees, plus a large number of berries, herbs and medicinal plants. The design is in a large, south facing U shape to create a microclimate in the middle to grow blueberries, lavender and Calendula to sell. We will be returning in the spring to fill in the middle part of the design.
This client wanted to turn an area of unused grass into food and flower producing beds on a south facing slope in the garden. We created an on contour design to work with the environment and made these beds ready for her to plant at a later date.
We worked with the homeowners to turn this grass lawn into an abundant food ecosystem.
We have installed 12 fruit trees, 3 Hazelnut, 2 grape, 3 kiwi and numerous berry shrubs, herbs and space for growing annual vegetables. All within the back yard of a standard .20 acre Cumberland lot.
